Good to know

  • Fundir or derreter? Fundir is mostly for metals and industry. For ice, butter, chocolate or cheese, people say derreter: O sorvete derreteu. (The ice cream melted.)
  • Se fundir is what companies, banks and groups do when they merge: As duas empresas se fundiram. (The two companies merged.) The noun is fusão.
  • Fundir o motor is what happens when a car engine seizes up: O motor do carro fundiu. (The car's engine seized up.) And fundir a cuca is slang for racking, or frying, your brain.
