Good to know
- Livrar alguém de means to free or save someone from something. With the pronoun, livrar-se de means "to get rid of", and that is how you'll hear it most: Eu me livrei do carro. (I got rid of the car.)
- Deus me livre! (God forbid! / No way!) is said all the time, by religious people and everyone else.
- Livre means "free" as in not busy or not in prison: Você está livre amanhã? (Are you free tomorrow?) Free of charge is grátis or de graça.
- Eu livro (I free) looks exactly like o livro (the book). The context tells them apart.
