Good to know
- Não aguento mais! (I can't take it anymore!) is one of the most common complaints in Brazil. Add an infinitive with no preposition: Não aguento mais esperar.
- Não aguentar de + noun means to be overcome by something: Não aguento de fome. (I'm starving.) Não aguento de sono. (I can't keep my eyes open.)
- Aguenta firme! means "Hang in there!", and Aguenta aí! means "Hold on a second!"
- Pronunciation: the u is pronounced, "ah-gwen-TAR". Older texts write it with two dots, agüentar; today there are none.
