- Birthday candles: soprar as velas (or as velinhas) is "to blow out the candles": Sopra as velinhas! (Blow out the candles!)
- Soprar takes a direct object where English says "blow on": Sopra o café, está quente. (Blow on the coffee, it's hot.)
- Soprar a resposta means to whisper the answer to someone, for example during a test: Ele soprou a resposta para o amigo. (He whispered the answer to his friend.)
- O sopro is the noun: a puff, a breath of air.
