Good to know

  • Segurar em means to hold on to something: Segure no corrimão. (Hold on to the handrail.)
  • Segura aí! is an informal "Hang on!": Segura aí, já volto. (Hang on, I'll be right back.)
  • Segurar vela (literally "to hold a candle") means to be the third wheel: Não quero segurar vela. (I don't want to be the third wheel.)
  • Seguro is "I hold", and it is also the adjective "safe": Este bairro é seguro. (This neighborhood is safe.)
