Good to know

  • It is iniciar (to start) with re- in front, and it isn't only for devices: reiniciar as aulas (to start classes again). In everyday talk, people also say começar de novo or recomeçar.
  • Watch the accent: the verb form eu reinicio has no accent and is stressed on ci. The noun o reinício (the restart) has one and is stressed on ní.
  • The classic advice in Portuguese: Já tentou desligar e ligar de novo? (Have you tried turning it off and on again?)
