Good to know

  • Flutuar or boiar? Both mean "to float". Boiar is the everyday word for people and things on water. Flutuar also works for floating in the air: O balão flutua no ar. (The balloon floats in the air.)
  • Prices: flutuar also means "to fluctuate": O dólar flutua muito. (The dollar fluctuates a lot.) The noun is a flutuação.
