Good to know

  • Spelling: estender is written with s, but the noun a extensão (extension) and the adjective extenso (long, extensive) are written with x.
  • Estender a roupa means to hang the laundry out to dry, usually on o varal (the clothesline).
  • Estender a mão means to hold out your hand, to greet or to help someone: Ele estendeu a mão para mim. (He held out his hand to me.)
  • Estender o prazo means to extend a deadline.
