  • Fired or quit? Ele foi demitido. (He was fired.) When the employee decides to leave, it's pedir demissão: Ela pediu demissão. (She quit.)
  • Mandar embora is the informal way to say it: Mandaram ele embora. (They let him go.)
  • The opposite is admitir or contratar (to hire).
