Good to know

  • Two meanings: to admit something and to hire someone. In the second meaning its opposite is demitir (to fire): Ele foi admitido em março e demitido em junho. (He was hired in March and fired in June.) In everyday speech, contratar is more common for "to hire".
  • Admitir que: Admito que errei. (I admit I was wrong.)
  • Não admitir means "not to tolerate": Eu não admito mentira. (I won't stand for lying.)
