Good to know

  • Slang: boiar also means to be lost in a conversation or not to get something: Eu boiei na aula. (I was lost in class.) Estou boiando. (I have no idea what's going on.)
  • A boia is anything that floats to keep you up, such as a swim ring or a buoy. Neither boia nor ele boia has an accent; older texts have bóia.
  • Boiar or flutuar? Boiar is the everyday word for floating on water; flutuar is also used for floating in the air.
