Good to know

  • Vir or ir? Vir is movement toward the speaker (here); ir is movement away (there): Você vem aqui amanhã? (Are you coming here tomorrow?) Eu vou aí amanhã. (I'll come over to your place tomorrow.) And when someone calls you, the answer is Já vou! (Coming!)
  • Que vem means "next": a semana que vem (next week), o ano que vem (next year).
  • Watch the spelling: ele vem but eles vêm. And "we came" is viemos, not vimos, which means "we come" or "we saw" (from ver).
