How to listen
- Answer out loud. You hear a sentence in English, then a pause. Say it in Portuguese before the voice does, then repeat the Portuguese you hear.
- Listen first, read second. The transcript shows each line only as it’s spoken, so you can’t peek at an answer. Try a lesson with your eyes closed too.
- One lesson a day. If you answered about 8 times out of 10, go on to the next lesson tomorrow. If not, listen to this one again.
The story
The math test is over. Pedro and Júlia are hungry, so they go to the school snack bar, where Rosa sells the best chicken croquettes in town. This is the conversation you’ll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
Pedro Como foi a prova? How was the test?
Júlia Foi difícil! Estou com fome. Vamos comer? It was hard! I’m hungry. Shall we eat?
Pedro Vamos! Let’s go!
Rosa Boa tarde! O que você quer? Good afternoon! What do you want?
Júlia Para mim, uma coxinha, por favor. For me, a chicken croquette, please.
Rosa E para você? And for you?
Pedro Quero uma coxinha e um suco de laranja. I want a chicken croquette and an orange juice.
Rosa Mais alguma coisa? Anything else?
Pedro Só isso, obrigado. Quanto é? That’s all, thank you. How much is it?
Rosa São dez reais. It’s ten reals.
Pedro Aqui está. Here you go.
Júlia Obrigada, Pedro! Thank you, Pedro!
