  • Socorro! is what you shout when you need help: Socorro! Alguém me ajuda! (Help! Somebody help me!)
  • Socorrer or ajudar? Socorrer is for emergencies: accidents, illness, danger. For everyday help, use ajudar: Você me ajuda com a mala? (Can you help me with my suitcase?)
  • The pronto-socorro is the emergency room, and primeiros socorros is first aid.
