Good to know

  • Ligar para alguém: to call someone, use para: Preciso ligar para o médico. (I need to call the doctor.) With pronouns, people usually say me ligar, te ligar: Te ligo amanhã! (I'll call you tomorrow!)
  • Ligar = to turn on: ligar a TV, ligar o carro (to start the car). The opposite, desligar, also means "to hang up": Ela desligou na minha cara. (She hung up on me.)
  • Não ligar para means "not to care about": Eu não ligo para isso. (I don't care about that.)
