  • Ferver or cozinhar? Liquids fervem; food is cooked (cozinhar) in boiling water: Ferva a água e cozinhe o macarrão. (Boil the water and cook the pasta.)
  • Água fervendo is boiling water, and água fervida is water that has been boiled.
  • People also use ferver for a lively, crowded place: A cidade ferve no Carnaval. (The city buzzes during Carnival.)
