This week you learned to:
- Greet people, thank them and say goodbye (day 1)
- Say who you are, where you're from and what you do with ser (day 2)
- Name things with o, a, um, uma and make plurals (day 3)
- Count to 20, and give your age and what you have with ter (day 4)
- Say how and where you are with estar, no and na (day 5)
Today there's nothing new to learn. You'll read a longer story, see the whole week on one page, and practice all of it mixed together.
It's the end of Emma's first week in São Paulo: a Friday at the office, and then an evening at home.
Warm-up: do you remember?
Before anything new, pull these out of memory. They come from earlier days, some from yesterday and some from weeks ago. Getting one wrong is useful: it shows you what to look at again.

A senhora. Emma doesn't call Dona Marta você. To an older person you don't know well, the respectful "you" is a senhora (to a woman) or o senhor (to a man). The verb is the same as with você: A senhora é de Minas? O senhor tem a chave? And notice os filhos e os netos: when it's clear whose family it is, Portuguese often says "the" where English says "my".
