Good to know

  • Combinar de + infinitive is how Brazilians make plans: A gente combinou de se ver amanhã. (We arranged to see each other tomorrow.)
  • Combinado! means "Deal!" or "It's a plan!" You'll hear it at the end of almost every arrangement. Vamos combinar! is "Let's set something up!"
  • Combinar com means to match or go well with, for clothes, colors, food and people: Vocês dois combinam. (You two are a good match.)
  • It does not mean to combine ingredients in a recipe; for that, use misturar (to mix).
