- Two changes in the present: u becomes o in ele foge and eles fogem, and g becomes j before a and o to keep the "zh" sound: eu fujo, que ele fuja.
- Fugir de means "to run away from" or "to avoid": fugir de casa (to run away from home), fugir do trânsito (to avoid the traffic).
- Two everyday expressions: fugir do assunto (to change the subject) and fugir da dieta (to cheat on your diet).
