Good to know

  • Irritar or irritar-se? Irritar is to annoy someone else. With the pronoun, it means "to get annoyed": Ele se irrita com tudo. (He gets annoyed at everything.) In everyday speech people also say Fiquei irritado com o atraso. (I got annoyed about the delay.)
  • Skin and eyes too: like "irritate" in English, it is used for the body: Esse sabonete irrita a minha pele. (This soap irritates my skin.)
  • Irritante or irritado? Irritante is "annoying" and irritado is "annoyed": Que barulho irritante! (What an annoying noise!)
