Good to know

  • What you sweep with: a vassoura (the broom) and a pá de lixo (the dustpan).
  • Cleaning the house: varrer o chão (to sweep the floor), passar pano (to mop), tirar o pó (to dust).
  • Varrer para debaixo do tapete is "to sweep under the rug", as in English: Não adianta varrer o problema para debaixo do tapete. (There's no point sweeping the problem under the rug.)
