  • Something saddens someone: Isso me entristece. (That makes me sad.) With se, the person becomes sad: Ela se entristeceu com a notícia. (She was saddened by the news.)
  • In conversation, ficar triste and deixar triste are much more common: Eu fiquei triste. (I got sad.) Isso me deixa triste. (That makes me sad.)
