Good to know

  • Entendi! (literally "I understood") is how Brazilians say "Got it!", and Não entendi is what you say when you miss something: Não entendi. Pode falar mais devagar? (I don't understand. Can you speak more slowly?)
  • Entender de means to know about a subject: Vocês entendem de carro? (Do you guys know anything about cars?)
  • Entender vs compreender: both mean "to understand". Entender is the everyday word; compreender is more formal, and you'll mostly see it in writing.
