Good to know

  • Aflito (anxious, distressed) is the adjective, and it's more common than the verb: Estou aflita com a prova. (I'm anxious about the test.) After ter, the participle is afligido.
  • Se afligir com means to get worried about something: Não se aflija com isso. (Don't worry about that.)
  • Spelling: the g becomes j before o and a: eu me aflijo, que ele aflija.
  • Que aflição! is what people say when something makes them anxious or makes them squirm.
