Good to know

  • Weather: use fazer for heat, cold and sunshine: Hoje faz muito calor. (It's really hot today.) Amanhã vai fazer sol. (It's going to be sunny tomorrow.)
  • Time ago: faz + a period of time means "ago" or "for": Faz dois anos que eu moro aqui. (I've been living here for two years.) Eu cheguei faz uma semana. (I arrived a week ago.)
  • Birthdays: Ela faz aniversário amanhã. (It's her birthday tomorrow.) Meu filho fez cinco anos. (My son turned five.)
  • Tanto faz means "it doesn't matter" or "whatever": Pizza ou hambúrguer? Tanto faz. (Pizza or burgers? I don't mind.)
