Lesson 4: Days, Months and Time

Lesson 4 of 8 · about 15 minutes

In this lesson you'll learn:

  • The days of the week and the months of the year
  • Words like today, tomorrow and the weekend
  • How to ask and tell the time

Days of the week

Portuguese Sounds like English
segunda-feira seh-GOON-dah FAY-rah Monday
terça-feira TEHR-sah FAY-rah Tuesday
quarta-feira KWAR-tah FAY-rah Wednesday
quinta-feira KEEN-tah FAY-rah Thursday
sexta-feira SAYS-tah FAY-rah Friday
sábado SAH-bah-doo Saturday
domingo doh-MEENG-goo Sunday

Counting days: Monday is literally "the second day" (segunda), Tuesday "the third" (terça), and so on, because the week starts on Sunday. In everyday speech people drop the -feira: Até segunda! (See you Monday!). Days and months are written with a small letter.
