Today there's nothing new. You'll read a longer story and practice all of it together.
It's finally Sunday, the day of the feijoada at the Almeidas' house. And for once, Lucas isn't late.

É domingo. A Emma e o Lucas vão de metrô para a casa dos pais dele. It’s Sunday. Emma and Lucas are going by metro to his parents’ house.
A casa fica em um bairro bonito, longe do centro. É uma casa amarela com uma porta azul. The house is in a pretty neighborhood, far from downtown. It’s a yellow house with a blue door.
Helena Emma, bem-vinda! Eu sou a Helena, a mãe do Lucas. Este é o meu marido, o Jorge. Emma, welcome! I’m Helena, Lucas’s mother. This is my husband, Jorge.
Emma Muito prazer! A casa de vocês é linda. Very nice to meet you! Your house is beautiful.
Jorge Obrigado! E esta é a minha mãe, a Dona Lúcia. Ela tem oitenta e dois anos. Thank you! And this is my mother, Dona Lúcia. She’s eighty-two.
Dona Lúcia Você é a amiga canadense do meu neto! Que olhos azuis bonitos! You’re my grandson’s Canadian friend! What pretty blue eyes!
Emma Obrigada! A senhora entende inglês? Thank you! Do you understand English?
Dona Lúcia Não entendo nada! Mas você fala português muito bem. I don’t understand any! But you speak Portuguese very well.
A sala é grande. Tem uma mesa na frente da janela e muitas fotos em cima do armário. The living room is big. There’s a table in front of the window and a lot of photos on top of the cupboard.
Emma Quem é ela, de cabelo comprido? Who is she, with the long hair?
Helena É a Bia, a nossa filha. Ela mora no Rio e está muito ocupada no hospital. That’s Bia, our daughter. She lives in Rio and she’s very busy at the hospital.
Jorge Vamos comer? A feijoada está quente! Shall we eat? The feijoada is hot!
Eles comem feijoada com arroz e bebem suco de laranja. A Emma está feliz. They eat feijoada with rice and drink orange juice. Emma is happy.
Lucas Mãe, a feijoada está tão boa! Mom, the feijoada is so good!
Helena Obrigada, meu filho. Emma, você come carne, né? Thank you, son. Emma, you eat meat, right?
Emma Como, sim. Está uma delícia! Yes, I do. It’s delicious!

Emma Está na cozinha, dentro da geladeira. É um bolo de chocolate. It’s in the kitchen, in the fridge. It’s a chocolate cake.
Dona Lúcia Eu adoro bolo! Vou comer muito. I love cake! I’m going to eat a lot.
À tarde, a família assiste o jogo do Corinthians na sala. A Dona Lúcia entende tudo de futebol. In the afternoon, the family watches the Corinthians game in the living room. Dona Lúcia knows all about soccer.

Day 15: -er and -ir verbs. Take off -er or -ir and add the ending. Only the nós form is different between the two.

Like comer: beber, entender, aprender, escrever, vender. Like abrir: assistir (to watch), decidir, dividir.
Day 16: my, your, our, his, her. Meu, seu and nosso go before the noun and match the thing owned. Dele and dela go after it and match the owner.

Day 17: describing. Adjectives match the noun and usually come after it: um carro novo, uma casa nova, olhos azuis. Ser says what someone or something is like; estar says how it is right now:
- A Emma é bonita. Emma is pretty. / A Emma está bonita. Emma looks pretty today.
- Ele tem cabelo preto e olhos castanhos. He has black hair and brown eyes.
Day 18: at home. Tem means "there is" and "there are". Ficar says where a place is. De joins the article after a place phrase.

Day 19: going. Ir is irregular: vou, vai, vamos, vão.
- To a place: Eu vou ao banco. Ela vai à praia. A gente vai para casa.
- How: Eu vou de ônibus. Nós vamos a pé.
- The future: Eu vou viajar amanhã. I'm going to travel tomorrow.
- Let's: Vamos comer! Let's eat!
