  • Talking about the day: like chover, it has no subject and stays in the ele form: Já escureceu. (It's already dark.) Está escurecendo. (It's getting dark.)
  • With an object it means "to darken", and it's also used for hair and colors that get darker: As nuvens escureceram o céu. (The clouds darkened the sky.)
