  • It comes from forte (strong). The opposite is enfraquecer (to weaken), from fraco (weak).
  • It is not only for the body: fortalecer a amizade (to strengthen the friendship), fortalecer a economia (to strengthen the economy).
  • When something gets stronger by itself, use se fortalecer: O time se fortaleceu. (The team got stronger.)
  • Spelling: the c becomes ç before o and a: eu fortaleço, que você fortaleça.
