Good to know

  • Começar a + infinitive: to start doing something, add a before the second verb: O bebê começou a chorar. (The baby started crying.)
  • Começar do zero means "to start from scratch": Ele perdeu tudo e começou do zero. (He lost everything and started from scratch.) Começar de novo means "to start over": Vamos começar de novo. (Let's start over.)
  • Começar por means "to start with": Vamos começar pela cozinha. (Let's start with the kitchen.)
