How to listen
- Answer out loud. You hear a sentence in English, then a pause. Say it in Portuguese before the voice does, then repeat the Portuguese you hear.
- Listen first, read second. The transcript shows each line only as it’s spoken, so you can’t peek at an answer. Try a lesson with your eyes closed too.
- One lesson a day. If you answered about 8 times out of 10, go on to the next lesson tomorrow. If not, listen to this one again.
The story
It’s the next morning, the day of the math test, and Pedro is still asleep. Ana wakes him up. He can’t find his backpack, and there’s no time for breakfast. This is the conversation you’ll be able to say by the end of the lesson.
Ana Bom dia, filho! Acorda! Good morning, son! Wake up!
Pedro Bom dia, mãe. Que horas são? Good morning, Mom. What time is it?
Ana Já são sete horas. Você está atrasado! It’s already seven o’clock. You’re late!
Pedro Estou atrasado! Cadê minha mochila? I’m late! Where’s my backpack?
Ana Está aqui. O café da manhã está pronto. It’s here. Breakfast is ready.
Pedro Não tenho tempo. Tenho prova hoje! I don’t have time. I have a test today!
Ana Você quer um pão de queijo? Do you want a cheese bread?
Pedro Quero. Obrigado! Tchau, mãe! I do. Thank you! Bye, Mom!
Ana Tchau, filho! Boa prova! Bye, son! Good luck on your test!
