Good to know

  • Arquivo is the noun: an archive, a filing cabinet and also a computer file. Não consigo abrir o arquivo. (I can't open the file.)
  • On your phone, arquivar is the word the apps use: Arquivei a conversa. (I archived the chat.) It hides the chat without deleting it; to delete is apagar.
  • Arquivar um processo means to close or shelve a legal case: O juiz arquivou o processo. (The judge closed the case.)
