  • A formal word: transitar is the language of road signs, traffic laws and the news. In conversation, people say passar or andar: Passa muito caminhão nessa rua. (A lot of trucks go down this street.)
  • Transitar por: the place you pass through takes por: transitar pela calçada, transitar pelo centro.
  • Transito or trânsito? Eu transito is stressed on si. The noun o trânsito (traffic) has an accent: O trânsito está parado. (Traffic is at a standstill.)
