Good to know
- Manter is conjugated like ter: mantenho, mantém, mantive, mantinha. The plural eles mantêm has a circumflex, just like eles têm. Obter works the same way.
- Manter contato means "to keep in touch": Vamos manter contato! (Let's keep in touch!) Two other common pairs: manter a calma (to stay calm) and manter a palavra (to keep your word).
- "Keep" isn't always manter. To keep something for yourself, use ficar com: Pode ficar com o troco. (Keep the change.) To keep doing something, use continuar: Continue tentando! (Keep trying!)
