Good to know

  • Ver or enxergar? Ver is the general verb for seeing. Enxergar is about being able to see, or managing to make something out: Não enxergo bem de longe. (I can't see well from far away.)
  • No "can" needed: English says "I can't see"; Portuguese just says Não estou enxergando nada. (I can't see a thing.)
  • Spelling: the g becomes gu before e: eu enxerguei, enxergue, enxerguem.
  • Se enxerga! is a sharp, informal way to tell someone to get over themselves.
