Good to know

  • Orientar alguém a + infinitive means to instruct someone to do something: O médico me orientou a beber mais água. (The doctor told me to drink more water.) About a subject, use sobre: Ela me orientou sobre o visto.
  • Orientação is guidance or instructions: Siga as orientações do médico. (Follow the doctor's instructions.)
  • At university, o orientador or a orientadora is the professor who supervises your thesis.
  • Orientar-se means to find your way: Eu me oriento pelo mapa do celular. (I find my way with the map on my phone.)
